JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

 

DESCRIPTION

 

 

Title:               Part Time GED Instructor

Contact:          Dolores Bramer

 

Reports to:     Director of Education

 

Purpose:         This individual will provide instruction to SBLC adult learners with skills levels ranging from the 9th to 12th grade levels.  Instruction will cover all subject areas and is intended to prepare the adult learner to pass the General Education Development exam.  Instructors are expected to maintain learner retention and achieve learner gains.

Primary Duties:

 

Instruction (70%)

6 hours of in-class instruction per week, in all main content areas (writing, reading comprehension, mathematics).

Planning, Administration & Case Management (20%)      

2 hours of lesson planning/recordkeeping per week & case management, per class, to include attendance and calls to those absent & weekly update meetings with the academic counselor.

Assessment  (6%)

Pre and post testing using prescribed evaluation instruments for each new student or each returning learner who lacks a prior post test.

Grade tests, share results with learners, and report data to IS.

Training (3%)

Attendance in at least 12 hours per year (or 3 hours per cycle) of instructor staff development as requested, and at monthly instructors' meetings to review program developments and requirements.

Other (1%)

Miscellaneous program support related to learner, instruction or organization activities.

 

 

Skills & Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.  Teaching experience required, experience with adults strongly preferred.  Experience with underprivileged populations extremely helpful.  Ability to integrate technology into class instruction needed.  Able to work routinely in the time slot agreed upon, whether day, evening or Saturday classes.  Team player with good communication and organizational skills.

 


 

 REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in related field with two years experience preferred or Bachelor’s degree with five years of related experience.  The desired applicant will have previous counseling and instructional experience.    

 

-         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

-         Professional appearance. 

-         Work well on a team. 

-         Possess experience in the development of curricula for the adult learner.

-         Proven experience with developing community resources/linkage.

-         Demonstrated ability to multi-task; organized; flexible, reliable.

-         Possess skills to make adult learners feel at ease with the SBLC program.   

-         Must be able to work a flexible work schedule to include mornings, evenings and Saturday hours.  

 

This position follows an academic calendar with a summer hiatus.
